There are six sanctioned posts in this department as of now, but five posts are vacant. Having a single whole-time permanent teacher as the co-ordinator, the academic load is presently shared by distinguished academics from neighbouring universities and colleges. The department began its journey with student strength of 20 in 2009 which, since then, has witnessed a steady rise for over the past six years. Besides regular and interactive classroom lectures and tutorials, the department hosts seminars, group discussions, workshops, Extension Lectures and short study tours for its students. The Masters programme is specifically designed to impart advanced knowledge in the core areas of Political Science besides inculcating basic research skills to the students. Special emphasis is laid on key analytical and methodological aspects of the discipline to offer insightful understanding of the Indian reality in the global context. The aim is to make the students familiar with the foundations and the changing contours of the subject thereby opening up new avenues for them to pursue higher studies as well as opt for competitive exams or other career options. Students are encouraged to write term papers and short dissertations with a view to further researchability and analytical skills.
